What exactly is the difference between SP and SN oils?

2022-10-18 11:08:28

As we all know, motor oil can play the role of lubrication and wear reduction, auxiliary cooling and temperature reduction, sealing and leakage prevention, rust and corrosion prevention, shock absorption and cushioning.
Base oil, as the main component of lubricating oil, determines the basic properties of lubricating oil, while additives can make up for and improve the deficiencies of base oil in terms of performance, and give some new properties. For different grades of motor oil, its quality performance varies.
In this issue, Master Bang will bring you to understand the difference between SN grade motor oil and SP grade motor oil.

About SN and SP grades of motor oil
SN and SP are grades of motor oil, where the first letter S indicates that the oil is suitable for use in gasoline engines, referred to as “motor oil”, and the second letter indicates the grade of oil performance in the standard, with the later the order of the letters, the better the performance. Currently, the most recent standard certified under this standard is SP.
API SP grade motor oil usually has better fuel consumption, outstanding cleaning ability and sludge dispersing ability, energy saving, anti-sludge, inhibit piston carbon buildup, oxidation, and increased testing of timing chain wear.
Difference between SN and SP grade oils
First, the grade is different: SP is the highest grade of motor oil, SN is the second grade of motor oil. Second is the oil film: SP oil film is stronger, SN oil film is weaker. The third is the protection performance: SP protection performance is stronger, SN protection performance is general.

In fact, for most car owners, SN oil can already meet the daily use, N-grade oil has better oxidation resistance, deposit control ability and wear protection to ensure the oil consumption and its sustained performance.
However, if the car is often used in a very congested urban environment, you can choose a more advanced oil, which will be relatively more environmentally friendly and economical.
Vehicle owner partners can choose according to their daily travel with the car, do not blindly pursue high-grade oil, so as not to continue to strengthen the vehicle engine cylinder work, aggravate engine wear.
Nippon fully synthetic SP motor oil, low sulfur, low phosphorus, low ash, low sulfate, environmental protection and energy saving, anti-wear, inhibit low-speed early combustion LSPI, outstanding fuel economy, protection of timing chain wear, low emissions, and provide quality protection for the engine particulate trap!
