What is VW Blue Oil? What is the zirconium in it used for?

Starting from August 2019, the initial engine oil produced by SAIC Volkswagen has been gradually switched to 0W20 engine oil, in order to ensure that the garage can correctly judge and use the corresponding specifications of the engine oil, we would like to remind the garage to check whether there is a “0W20 engine oil” mark on the cover of the oil filler port when maintaining the Volkswagen EA211 and EA888 engines. When servicing Volkswagen EA211 and EA888 engines, please check the oil filler cap to see if there is any “0W20 engine oil” marking on the cap.
What is “Blue Oil”?
Volkswagen Blue Oil is a VW 508/509 standardized motor oil.
As we know, motor oil is categorized into “American Standard” (also known as API standard), “European Standard” (also known as ACEA standard). There are also automobile manufacturers' own oil standards. European automakers like to set their own oil standards. For example, Mercedes-Benz's 229.3/229.5 standard, such as BMW's LL-01/LL-04 standard.

Of course Volkswagen has its own motor oil standards. In the national five, four era Volkswagen recommended the use of VW 50200/50500 specification of engine oil (usually most of the 5W-40); and the national six B models, it is recommended to use VW 50800/50900 specification of engine oil (labeling is 0W-20).
VW 508/509 standard is equivalent to the “European standard” C5 level.
However, VW's VW 508/509 standard requires higher lubrication protection, sludge resistance, and longevity than the “Euro Standard” C5 grade. In short, VW VW 508/509 is the “PLUS version” of the “Euro Standard” C5 grade!
Why are there colors and zirconium elements?
Volkswagen VW 508/509 oils are higher-end and better than “Euro” C5 oils! The company that first produced VW VW 50800/50900 motor oil thought of coloring the oil in order to show its “specialness” and to prevent car owners from using it incorrectly! After dyeing the oil blue-green blue-green, named “blue oil”.
The zirconium in Volkswagen's “blue oil” is actually a kind of “anti-counterfeiting technology” of Volkswagen! Mixing nanoscale zirconium into the motor oil, then when this motor oil is taken to the laboratory for identification, as long as the zirconium component is detected, then it is the genuine article as the fake one!
In addition, the zirconium element can form an oxide film on the metal surface, which is glossy, anti-wear, corrosion-resistant, dissolves in the oil and does not melt away in the work, greatly enhancing the performance of the oil.
